Metal foam is primarily used in the automotive industry for shock-resistance buffering of the car body, noise reduction, and heat insulation of the car body and partition walls.
Through-cell metal foam is a highly permeability porous material that has been specially processed to have a sponge-like porous structure from the inside out. The entry of sound from the surface into the interior causes the small fibers of air and material in the pores to vibrate, and the sound energy is converted into heat energy and absorbed through friction and viscous resistance.
Metal foam materials have high sound-absorbing characteristics in the low-frequency range when compared to other sound-absorbing materials. It exhibits excellent sound-absorbing properties when a wide range of low-frequency fields are involved, depending on the thickness of the air layer chosen.
It is used for sound absorption in car and train compartments, and it not only has good sound absorption performance, but also better anti-deformation performance than traditional polyester materials, good energy absorption performance, high strength, non-combustion, and increases the safety of transportation equipment; at the same time, the metal material is non-toxic and harmless, which is more in line with environmental protection standards.
Foamed metal materials are now commonly used in sound insulation materials for automobiles and train cars.
