How to Clean a Range Hood Filter

To complete this simple kitchen cleaning task, you'll only need a few basic cleaning supplies.
Step 1: Find and remove the Range Hood Filter.
First, locate and remove the filter from your range hood. The filter is visible on the underside of most range hoods. The filter may have handles that you simply grab and slide backward to pull out, depending on your range hood. Other range hood filters may have a pinching mechanism that requires you to squeeze in order for it to slide out.
Consult your owner's manual if you don't know where your range hood filter is or how to properly remove it. After successfully removing the filter, take it to the sink to inspect it before cleaning.

Step 2: Examine the Range Hood Filter
If you cook frequently and have never cleaned your range hood filter, you might be better off replacing it. Examine your filter to see if it's completely clogged and covered. If this is the case, consider purchasing a replacement range hood filter and remember to clean the new filter once a month.

It's time to clean the filter if it doesn't need to be replaced. You have two choices for cleaning your range hood filter. The first method is to spray it with a multipurpose cleaner and leave it for 10 minutes. Then, using a scrub brush, clean the filter. The second option is to scrub the range hood filter with hot water and a generous amount of dish soap.

Step 4: Replace the Range Hood Filter
When your range hood filter is clean, dry it with a dish towel and replace it under the range. Now your filter can get back to work and provide you with clean air.
