Production method of copper foam

Aug 30, 2022

Like most metal foam production methods, copper foam is mainly based on copper, which can make a large number of connected or non-connected pores evenly distributed on the copper base during the production process. Copper foam inherits both the related properties of copper and the advantages of metal foam. For example, copper foam itself has excellent electrical conductivity and ductility, while the production cost of copper foam is relatively low, and the scope of application is wider.

So what production process and method are used to produce copper foam?

1. Powder metallurgy

This method is mainly by continuously adding a foaming agent to the powder. After the two materials are fully sintered, the blowing agent volatilizes leaving a void, and the blowing agent can be produced.

2. Electrochemical deposition

In the production process of this method, the processed foamed copper not only has a regular shape, but also has only about 95% porosity, which can be widely used in the production of foamed metal.

3. Sintering-Demelting Process

Compared with the first two methods of producing foamed copper, this method is more complicated. First, electrolytic copper powder and sodium chloride particles are mixed with various additives, and then the mixture is pressed into green embryos. The green embryos are sintered in argon, and the product is dissolved in a circulating hot water device. After the dissolution is completed, it is washed with an ultrasonic water bath and acetone, and dried to form open pores after washing. However, the opening rate of this method is only 50~81%, and the average opening diameter is 0.2~4 mm.

Most of the current copper foam manufacturers, in the production process, mainly use the above three methods for production. Among them, powder metallurgy and electrochemical deposition are the most commonly used methods; although metal foam has many advantages and practicability, and its use prospects and application fields are also very broad, how to reduce its production cost and improve production technology has become an urgent need in the scientific community. solved problem.
