What is Conductive Foam?
Jul 05, 2023
Conductive foam is a type of polyethylene foam that is carbon-filled. It is distinguished by its black coloring and a surface resistance of less than 106 ohms. Conductive foam protects electronic devices and components by acting as a Faraday cage, preventing electromagnetic fields from reaching the objects it surrounds. This type of foam eliminates the need to protect the item from electrostatic charges from the outside world.
Conductive foam has been shown to drain batteries when their conductive ends come into contact with it. If you're shipping or storing electronic devices, use a layer of insulation or another type of static dissipative foam to protect the batteries from the foam.
