What is Anti-Static Foam?

Jul 11, 2023

Anti-static (ESD) foams aid in the dissipation of electro-static charges, which can easily damage sensitive electronic devices and parts. These foams have a surface resistance of 109 - 1012 ohms and are made of static dissipative polyurethane and polyethylene.
Most ESD foams are easily identified due to their pink color. ESD foams are chemically treated with anti-static agents to prevent static charges from forming. They prevent static electricity from being generated by the friction of the item rubbing against them while in motion. They will, however, allow static charges to pass through them. When using this foam in shipping to fully protect static-sensitive devices, place the item in a silver conducive bag to shield it from outside electrostatic charges.
