Method Of Deep-Cleaning Range Hood Filters
Aug 10, 2023
If you haven't cleaned your range hood filters in a few months (or ever), you'll need to do so to remove all of the grease, grime, and lint. Fortunately, the procedure is straightforward and takes less than an hour.
Begin by filling your sink with hot water (if your sink is too small to accommodate the filters, you could use the bathtub instead). To help cut through the grime, add a generous squirt of degreasing dish soap and 14 cup baking soda. Swirl it all together, then immerse the filters in the mixture for 15 to 30 minutes.
While the filters are soaking, use the time to clean the rest of your range hood, which can also accumulate greasy residue. We recommend wiping the face and sides of the hood with a soapy sponge to remove any film. Once it's clean, use a microfiber cloth and white vinegar to polish the stainless steel and make it shine.
After soaking your filters for a few minutes, use a sponge or non-abrasive scrub brush to remove any remaining grease and gunk. Run the filters under warm water to remove any residue, then air dry them before reinstalling them over your stove. Alternatively, you can speed up the process by drying them with a microfiber cloth.
